Steam Deck & Handheld Compatibility (v0.5.169 EA Update)

While Scavland is fundamentally built on lightweight 2D pixel physics, Early Access player reports and creator feedback (e.g., Splattercatgaming) note that the handheld experience currently requires some compromises:

  • Performance: Stable 60 FPS is easily achievable on standard Steam Deck and ROG Ally hardware without severe thermal throttling.
  • Battery Performance: Estimated 4.5+ hours of continuous wasteland exploration on a single charge.
  • UI & Font Scaling Issues: As of Early Access launch (now 0.7.0; 0.5.169 at launch), the UI text and inventory icons can be difficult to read on 7-inch screens. Developers have acknowledged this and are working on improved dynamic UI scaling.
  • Controls: Full controller support is present, but complex inventory management (drag-and-drop) is currently less responsive on gamepads compared to a mouse.

For optimized TDP power profiles, verified 60 FPS settings, and recommended community controller layouts, see our dedicated Scavland Steam Deck & Handheld Settings Guide.

macOS & Apple Silicon Status

Official Developer Status: Pending Apple Approval

Following intense community inquiries on Steam, developer NoShadow confirmed that the native macOS build of Scavland is code-complete and currently undergoing final Apple notarization and store review.

  • Supported Architecture: Full compatibility with Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4) and Intel-based MacBooks/iMacs.
  • Performance Target: Solid 60 FPS at native Retina resolutions with minimal battery draw.
  • Expected Availability: Will be unlocked on Steam as a free platform update for all Early Access owners once approved.

Controller & Mouse/Keyboard Support

Full gamepad support is natively supported with twin-stick aiming and customizable button layouts. Mouse & keyboard precision remains fully supported for pixel-accurate sniping across the Mist.
